We officially opened our doors in 1966, but our story began a little earlier. Kenneth Truter started selling freshly-picked apples on this very property in the early 1960s, sharing the best of our region’s produce with locals and travelers alike. In 1964, he purchased the property, and just two years later, Peregrine Farmstall was born.

Present farm stall construction
In 1981, we took a big step forward with the construction of our current structure, built using beautiful Knysna timber. This new building gave us a permanent home, allowing us to expand our offerings and welcome even more visitors to share in the Peregrine experience.

Inside the farm stall
By 1983, we had flourished, growing from our humble beginnings to offer a wider variety of local produce and handmade products. Our expanded selection included an array of jams, baked goods, and pantry essentials—each one a celebration of the rich agricultural bounty of our region.

Opening of the red tractor cafe
In 1998, we responded to growing demand by opening the Red Tractor Café. This cozy addition gave our visitors a warm, inviting spot to enjoy hearty meals and fresh, local flavors. It quickly became a favorite for both travelers and locals, adding another special element to what we offer at Peregrine.

Peregrine makes their first pie
Our famous pies first made an appearance between 1999 and 2000, marking a delicious milestone in Peregrine Farmstall's culinary journey. We strived to continue our commitment to using fresh, local ingredients to give travelers and locals quality and delicious food.

Peregrine cafe and bakery launch
After a fire destroyed the Red Tractor Café in 2014, we reopened in 2015 with the new Peregrine Café, creating a fresh and inviting space for our visitors. In 2018, we expanded further by launching our new bakery, adding freshly baked breads and pastries to our offerings and continuing to grow the Peregrine experience.

Peregrine wins KFM Best of the Cape’s Best Farm Stall Award
In 2023, 2024 and 2025, we were honored to receive KFM's Best of the Cape Award for Best Farm Stall. We’re incredibly grateful for the support and love you’ve shown us over the years—thank you for being such an important part of the Peregrine story!
At Peregrine, we believe business should do more than perform, it should contribute. Our social purpose is rooted in the communities we are part of, and the responsibility we carry to help them grow stronger, more resilient, and more connected. Internally, we focus on creating real opportunity: building a culture where people feel supported, valued, and able to develop over time. Growth starts within our own team.
Externally, our approach is hands-on and locally grounded. We support initiatives that restore dignity, unlock potential, and create pathways: from education and youth development to community care, creativity, and wellbeing. We partner with organisations that work from within the community, where trust, consistency, and real impact matter most.
We don’t see this as charity, but as a long-term commitment: investing in people, places, and potential to help shape a stronger future for the region we call home.
We show up where it matters — consistently, practically, and with intent.
Community Care & Development
A deeply rooted community organisation in Grabouw, Siphila Sonke (“We live together”) provides hands-on support to some of the most vulnerable families in the Elgin Valley. Their work goes beyond aid: combining food security, home-based care, emotional support, and administrative assistance to restore dignity and stability where it is most needed. At the heart of the organization is a powerful focus on youth, with daily after-school programmes, safe spaces, and scholarship pathways that help children grow into confident, capable individuals with real future opportunities. Siphila Sonke operates not from the outside, but from within the community, building trust, resilience, and long-term change one family at a time.
Humanitarian Care & Family Support
A community-rooted organisation focused on restoring stability and dignity within vulnerable families in Grabouw and surrounding areas. House of Hope works closely with children and households at risk, providing safe spaces and consistent care where it is needed most. Through trust-based, hands-on engagement within the community, House of Hope plays a vital role in breaking cycles of vulnerability and creating a more stable foundation for future generations.
Youth Development & Skills Pathways
A hands-on mentorship and skills programme in Grabouw focused on young men who have fallen outside the traditional school system. Growstrong creates a structured environment where participants rebuild confidence, discover purpose, and develop practical life and vocational skills, from craftsmanship to communication and entrepreneurship.Through a multi-year journey combining mentorship, physical activity, and real-world work exposure, the program equips young individuals to step away from cycles of unemployment and risk, and move toward independence and self-belief. More than training, Growstrong offers a second chance, reshaping identity, restoring dignity, and opening pathways to a more stable future.
Community Identity & Creative Upliftment
A grassroots initiative transforming Sir Lowry’s Pass Village through the power of art. Paint SLPV works alongside residents to co-create murals and visual storytelling projects that turn everyday spaces into vibrant expressions of identity, pride, and community spirit. By involving local artists, youth, and families directly in the process, the initiative fosters ownership, creativity, and connection. Beyond beautification, Paint SLPV creates opportunity, using art as a platform for skills development, exposure, and personal growth. It is a living example of how creativity can reshape not just spaces, but mindsets and community confidence.
Animal Welfare
A vital frontline organisation in Grabouw, rescuing, treating, and rehoming vulnerable animals. Beyond emergency care, GAWS plays a key role in education and population control, contributing to a healthier, more humane community.
Youth Development & Sport
More than a cycling programme, the academy is a platform for discipline, structure, and ambition. It identifies and develops young talent while providing mentorship, routine, and a pathway to broader life opportunities through sport.
Education & Scholarships
An innovative, nature-based school in the Elgin Valley that nurtures curiosity, character, and critical thinking. Through our partnership, we help open doors for talented young learners to access this unique educational environment.
In addition to our core partnerships, we continuously support smaller, local initiatives where we can make a tangible difference: whether through funding, product support, or hands-on community engagement.
